From beginning to end, I just wanted to keep on going. Now Burroghs did an amazing job transmitting the key elements of the game to text, and he did a wonderful job of translating the stunning landscape where Alan’s adventures take place.

{Review} Alan Wake by Rick Burroughs

The story just unraveled in front of me and i sat there as if i was standing right next to Mr. This is as rcik as it gets as a gateway into supernatural horror writers like King, Kuntz, and Barker.

The manuscript pages fluttered slowly to the floor. As he continued to describe the story line, I became fascinated and felt the need to read about Alan Wake’s adventure in Bright Falls. Not all of this is need-to-know information, and it is a little irksome, but that is just part of the give-and-take process here.

Overall its just not written really well. Burroughs, it is a really, really, really bad novelization of a game that I really enjoyed playing. However, the opposite is also true; there are bits of the video game that were not present in the book. Soon after they arrive, however, Alice goes missing under mysterious circumstances. Every time Wake found himself being hunted in the dark woods in the middle of the night I could picture the beautiful burfoughs woodland landscape and it sent a chill down my spine just as it did when I was playing the game.

However, shortly ricck arriving, Wake soon discovers everything is not always as it seems or as he writes.

This is when Alan realizes all of this corresponding to the new book he was trying to write and now has to battle the silhouette death known as the “Taken” in order to save his wife.

Sep 30, Mike rated it it was ok. This is a big divergence from the end of the game, where Wake must sally forth on his own, but the abundance of company help round the book out throughout. The book was well paced and set the scene just right however i felt the last couple of chapters just skimmed over the end of the story with not much warning explanation or scene setting.

Retribution – The Official Movie Novelization. I may be wrong, but for most people, the best part of Alan Wake the game is the pulse-pounding fights with the Taken, who seem to awke everywhere.

A dark presence has woken up in the depths of Cauldron Lake. Sign In Don’t have an account? Sheathed in shadows, vulnerable only to light, they are Taken. The title should be at least 4 characters long. The genre of this book is a sci-fi thriller. Crazy, irrational, anger-driven, distracted and severely off-putting. City of the Dead. Maybe a second honeymoon and the fresh air will cure Wake of his writer’s block. Books made as video game adaptations are a fickle thing. He wakes up in a car wreck exactly one week later with no recollection of the week passed. However, shortly after arriving, Wake soon discovers everything is not always as it seems or as he writes.

However, the plot of Alan Wake in general came off as miserable to me.

If you wanna read some new kind of horror with an interesting story and not mind at writing. Instead, I was treated to an extensive summary of a story I already experienced He looked back at her, jaws clamped as he wa,e on. And was it that moment when a strange darkness pulls her down into the bottom of the lake and Alan passes out burrouughs he tries to save her.

The writing is the only problem with the novelization, whereas everything else is a plus. It’s confusing at first, then you reach a point when everything just clicks. To vanquish them, Wake has to use a light source to burn away their darkness, then shoot them. So I ended up being one of those weird people who bought the novelazation burrojghs the game. Thankfully, rixk last third of the book gets better, where the story becomes more complex and nearing its conclusion which is a bit anti-climatic for fans of the game.

Sep 03, Austin Graham rated it it was amazing. After struggling with a crippling case of writer’s block for several years, Wake and his wife travel to the rural town of Bright Falls for vacation.

This vacation set-up is matched step for turn in the game, and from here on out, the majority of the game and novel laan are identical. Sometimes Wake finds a radio in a vacant cabin, an old burroughz, or wherever and he listens to the local night radio broadcast. He doesn’t really add a lot to any particular page, but he does break the tension in what would otherwise be a massive heart attack conveyed through text. One thing that I wish the author, Rick Burroughs, would have done is add more additional content than just retelling the exact same story as the game.
