If there’s one thing I must say about this novel, it’s that every teenager should read thisboy or girl. At least not with Breathing Underwater. The only place where this book failed was it felt a little too impersonal.

I found it really interesting how Nick was shown the error of his ways by writing it down. So folks, that is my initial gut reaction of this book. I understand from a friends review that the author was compelled to write this story after working with battered women and children.

Even after it ends, the issues that it brings to light stick with you and make you think about all brdathing persons involved in the unfolding events. Some people complain about happy endings, but this book’s ending was bitter sweet, not completely happy. It was extremely interesting to know the whole story in Nick’s point of view as well as learn how it affects his future and everyday life.

He is sentenced to take a class on anger management and write his version of the story in a journal every day.

I alx I must have nodded or something because, from that point on, every poem I ever wrote in school was submitted to Highlights or Cricket magazine.
